    Questions about Second-Hand license

    Greetings Everyone:

So I am on another vB site and looking to purchase a license second-hand due to my limited budget and the person is offering me vB 3.8.5; is this a good deal? I have recently launched some new VPSs so I can control the PHP versions on those without issue so my current sites running on 4.x will run just fine.

Is there anything wrong with running 3.8.5? should I take the offer or turn around and try my luck elsewhere?
    Thanks:

Do you require a license? Can you run a nulled version?

I can run nulled/keygenned version no problem, I just want the licensed version just for the sake of one site out of my many web properties being licensed plus access to the members area on vb.com, all the patches and security updated, and their support forums. While I get support here and it's the best support for vB I am sure of it, having one line into the official systems might help me in future. Plus I think there's upgrade pricing available for me if I get the older version which will ensure me a hook into the official vB ecosystem thus I can get hold of vB5 which comes with access to previous versions to my understanding thus ultimately granting me access to suite 4.2.5 (thus PHP 7 compatibility for my own sites) and share it here for the community.

It's a multi-step plan but it works one would think thus fixing some problems as outlined below:
    1. Get updated vB thus allowing me to migrate away from PHP 5.6x (for security reasons)
    2. I can share it with the community for those who are in environments where 4.2.3 cannot run due to only having access to PHP 7.x
    3. No one (read "vB") is less likely to complain at me for unlicensed software on my main hosting site thus one less entry point to get my servers shut down if vB comes a knocking at my hosting company's door with a DMCA complaint (not likely since they haven't already)
    4. Access to official members area content and vb.org thus enabling me to get things if needed and find advice.

The above are my main reasons and are the reasons my purchasing team is justifying the purchase when some other things get themselves straight
    Thanks:
